War on the Profession

The Government of India seems to have lost all sense of proportions. In a frontal assault on the profession this Government has initiated a series of anti people measures which will have far reaching consequences on the health of the nation. An undeclared war on the profession is on, starting with the shameful attempt to produce legal quacks through BRMS/BRHC. A fraud on hapless villagers, this half baked idea is the worst human right violation in recent times. Eyes clearly set on next parliamentary election, this move effectively puts the clock back on the nation.

As if this was not enough, the Government has pushed a draconian law hastily through the Lok Sabha. Christened deceptively as the clinical establishments regulation bill this is the surest way to drive the young medical graduates away from practice of medicine. The law makers had no qualms to pass this crime of a bill without even a minute’s discussion. We deserve better. The Government has unleashed a license raj effectively sealing free initiatives in health for another half a century. Trying to rein in a fiercely independent profession which has brought laurels to the country is nothing but a mass suicide. Amen on rural health.

To strike the last nail in the coffin of the medical profession the Government had conspired to take away the autonomy of the MCI. It brought great disgrace on the office of the President by issuing an ordinance robbing the MCI of it’s powers. This very arbitrary use of power with ulterior motives is a direct challenge to the profession. The Government is bent upon decimating the profession. IMA cannot allow these affronts on the dignity of the profession to go unchallenged. IMA gives the clarion call to its noble sons to take up the cudgels. Now or never….
