IMA Central Working committee approves IMA Satyagraha

Indian Medical association Central working Committee attended by over 350 IMA leaders from across the country, held at Chennai, unanimously passed the resolution to go ahead with the IMA Satyagraha being held in over 500 districts in India by over 1700 branches in Wednesday 16th November, International Tolerance Day.

Giving the details Dr K K Aggarwal Honorary Secretary General said that a dharna will be organized in every district all over the country from 11 to 1 PM. In Delhi the dharna will be organized at Jantar Manter.

The meeting was chaired by IMA National President Dr SS Agarwal.

IMA has been fighting for its six major demands. The inter-ministerial committee formed last year has not been able to satisfy the medical community as it can only recommend. The medical fraternity wants time bound solutions.

IMA Views and Demands

  1. Stop non democratic National Medical Commission bill, which will take away the professional autonomy and in place amend the existing MCI act to make it more stringent.
  2.  Bring central act to cover violence against medical professionals while on duty.
  3. To let the doctors treat patients with reasonable fees, bring single doctor clinic out of purview of clinical establishment act.
  4. No penal provisions for clerical mistakes in various acts including PC-PNDT act.
  5. Strict implementation of existing IMC act so that dangerous schedule H, H1 and X drugs are nor prescribed by non MBBS or Non BDS doctors.
  6. Compensation against professional deficiency not to be decided by the income of the patient to avoid any discrimination in the treatment of the poor and the rich. Instead the formula used in deciding compensation in any clinical trial be used. The compensation should be capped.
